Home Improvement Hero..Tuesday, July 30, 2013
When Money Supermarket contacted me a few weeks ago to see if I'd like to take part in their latest blogger challenge, I jumped at the chance. Home Improvement Hero is the name of this challenge and Money Supermarket have given a number of bloggers £50 to improve a room or part of their house. We moved into our house a couple of months ago, and there are still areas that aren't quite done. So when I first got the email we thought we'd probably use the money to transform the downstairs bathroom. A current dumping ground for our bed linen and towels as we haven't found anywhere else to store them yet. However a couple of weeks down the line, we started to have this glorious summer weather. The warm days and summer nights showed us that actually there was somewhere that needed improving a little more right now; the garden.
We decided that we wanted some new chairs for the garden, ones you can sit in and not get a numb bum after twenty minutes. We found some cool striped deckchairs in IKEA, also with the family card, they had £10 off them meaning they were just £15 each. Bargain. The striped chairs are bright, comfy and fold up so they're easy to store for when the weather isn't so great. With £20 left to play with, we then headed to B&Q, we wanted some lights/lanterns for the garden, but it seemed every other person had the same idea as everywhere was sold out. So we decided to get some garden candles instead. We got two purple citronella ones, to ward off any bugs whilst we're sitting in the garden and two glass ones cause well they're pretty. The candles give a bit more of a relaxed feel to the garden which is perfect after a long day at work! The candles came to £10, so we still had £10 left. We decided to use the remaining money on a BBQ, we managed to pick one up in a sale as our old one was looking pretty battered! We can now sit on our deckchairs, and toast marshmallows to our hearts content.
So £50 well spent on our garden, it makes a big difference having somewhere to sit in the evenings and we can actually have friends over for BBQ's now.... but oh wait that would mean being sociable.. hmm not sure about that one! Ha just joking. How would you spend £50 to improve a room in your house?
