Getting That Summer GlowTuesday, August 25, 2015
Okay, have i missed the boat with this one? Can we still call it summer right now? Technically till September, I think we can get away with it. I won't lie, I am a little obsessed with getting all glowy. You know with my face, not carrying round a million glow sticks with me glowy, like highlighter glowy.
Having oily skin means that sometimes I can go from all dewy one second to a bit sweaty the next so I've tried to master over the years, ways of mattifying the oil and upping the radiance. Tough job but someone has to do it. Also before we start, can we just stop with the whole strobing thing? Like what even is this? It's just applying a shit load of highlighter right? Something we've all been doing for years? Okay yes, let's move on. Strobing, it's up there on the list with minions. Bloody minions.
Okay so getting that summer glow, you want to look like you've just stepped off a day on the beach where you've been so relaxed you honestly couldn't tell someone what day it is or your own name. Or you've just woke up from a seriously dreamy deep sleep to no alarm in fresh sheets, that kinda glow. Usually though, I look like I've just been dragged through a hedge backwards by my face, or I've been out in a gale. So y'know have to work with these things.
Foundation wise, I either switch between YSL Touche Eclat foundation or Bourjois Healthy Mix. Both have light/medium coverage but just give you a radiant dewy finish. I find that Bourjois lasts slightly longer on my skin, but both give you a nice finish to the skin. I usually have to powder to stop myself being too shiny but they work well throughout the day to give you that radiant dewy finish. Think kind of Millie Mackintosh dewiness. However I have been a little put off wearing my Bourjois HM lately as when I recently got matched for a foundation, the lady said that my current foundation was making me look really grey *cheers pal* so I think I maybe need to get another shade as my summer glow look is not about looking like Dracula's twin, no no no.
Then the most important part in faking a summer glow, is highlighter. My recent favourites have been Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal, a cream highlighter that has a champagne pearly finish. Really blendable and is perfect for making cheekbones all glowy. However I find though depending on what kind of blush I've been using, if it's been powder, i prefer to use a powder highlighter so step in The Balm Mary Lou Manizer highlighter. This has had some serious loving on YouTube and I guess, I just couldn't resist any longer. Now this is glowy, add too much and pooweee you'll need your sunglasses. But seriously this will last you a life time and will give you the most amazing highlight. I love it and it doesn't go cakey either! LOVE.
This is what I've been doing to help perk my skin up and inject some glow into it. I know not a lot of drugstore products today but I've never really found an amazing drugstore highlighter so if you know of any let me know and I can try them out!! :)
