Christmas Partywear EditWednesday, December 02, 2015
With December now here, that means one thing - party season is almost here too.
The Christmas period is usually the busiest time of the year for parties and occasions, and for once I usually have a bit more of a social life than usual. FYI it's also the best time of the year to snuggle indoors with a Christmas film and hot chocolate. But if you have a diary full of occasions or even just the one party that you need an amazing outfit for, I have you covered.
Usually I find shopping for party wear pretty difficult, as I'm quite picky. However when I went to my local shopping centre, WestQuay, I saw so many things that I felt I could see myself wearing. I wish that I had more events to go to!
It was quite obvious to see that there were certain trends within the party wear at Southampton's premier shopping destination. I headed for high street stores such as Oasis, New Look, River Island and H&M. I may have also had a little look in John Lewis as they stock a huge array of womenswear for all budgets.
I used the WestQuay PLUS app, available on iTunes or Google Play when in the centre. The PLUS app is available for lots of different centres across the country, and it gives you information on shops, who has offers, the latest deals and so on. It also has different sections so you can see what's on offer in the food court, or for toys etc... I always find it handy to use when I am shopping for something specific.
So let's talk trends first of all, I read an article that said this season the five main party wear trends are Classic, Romantic, Rock N Roll, Minimalist, and Disco. I definitely saw an example of all five trends within the stores and I think there is a trend for everyone.
Classic evening wear is your classic LBD. Think sophisticated, if you're going to the ballet, or for a posh work do. Very Audrey Hepburn inspired, so think shift dresses, pencil skirts, a-line dresses, accessorise with pearls and simple courts. You get me? This is something that for me, I feel is a little too formal, but it's the perfect trend if you want a slightly smarter look for your Christmas soirée. (I have always wanted to say soirée in a post)

Then there's the rock ‘n’ roll trend. Something which I feel is very popular this year, as you can totally dress this look up or down. Leather, sequins, exposed zips are what we're talking about. Oasis has a huge range of party wear which seriously impressed me. I loved its pleather a-line mini skirt which would look amazing with a little cami or high neck top, pair with some killer heels and you have a seriously cool party look. River Island also has some lush items, think sequinned bodycon dresses with faux fur coats, but also think ripped jeans with heels and a lace cami for a little more dressed down, but still sexy, look. I even thought you could push the boat out with some leather coated jeans/leggings, but just be careful to not do a Ross from Friends in them. You could pair band tees with a sequin skirt from H&M and throw on a faux fur coat and swear down, you'll give someone like Kate Moss a run for her money.

There are also a lot of simple pieces in store which I liked because sometimes you don't want to go all out, and usually this means you can wear something all year round. Minimalist seems to be very popular, especially on places like Pinterest where I am sure the phrase ‘simple is more’ is the motto. Stuff like LBDs in simple cuts like skater and a-line. Wearing monochrome or just all black with very simple accessories, perhaps edging it up with an ear cuff, or a simple delicate necklace (Accessorize is your place to go for this) it's all about being stylish and sophisticated. Think Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian, keeping it simple in sophisticated cuts and one colour.

Disco is of course a huge trend this Christmas as it is most years. By disco I mean sequins, glitter, and I mean a lot of it! New Look has some seriously sparkly heels that you could pair with just a plain outfit, or you could go all out. River Island has a few sequinned pieces such as dresses and cami's that you could pair with jeans or trousers. They also had this 70’s inspired zig zag dress which would look amazing with black accessories. H&M has some amazing sequinned mini skirts and dresses this season, in an array of colours like teal blue which would just look amazing for standing out at the Christmas party.

Finally my favourite party trend at the moment, the romantic trend. Don't worry I'm not going to go all soppy on you, but think lace, flowy cuts like skater dresses, high necks, velvet, and you get my drift. I love this type of trend and usually every single party dress that I go for, 99% of the time it's lace. This year is no exception I bought this black lace skater dress from H&M for just £24.99, I then paired it with some simple strappy sandals from New look and an embellished clutch also from New Look to complete the look. I love this trend as there’s so many ways you can wear it. From an eyelash lace cami with jeans, to a velvet skater dress, it’s the perfect trend for winter.

There are so many nice things in the shops at the moment, that I am sure you will be able to find your perfect party outfit! Also don't forget, if you're local to Southampton, to download the WestQuay PLUS app, available on iTunes or Google Play to take advantage of all the great offers on the app.
So tell me what are you wearing for your Christmas parties this year?
