Behind The Scenes Of My Blog Photos

It's sometimes very easy to forget the 'behind the scenes' when it comes to blogging and social media. Even though I blog, and post on Instagram and know full well that sometimes, not all is what it seems with what you post online, I do sometimes forget this. I've sat and felt rubbish when looking at my Instagram feed, or found myself on someones blog wondering how their pictures are always so perfect and their writing is so funny and witty. Sometimes, it'll leave me feeling about as funny and attractive as a chicken pot noodle.

So, I've been having one of those weeks recently, one of my unmotivated weeks, and I've been sat comparing myself to every other blogger out there. It's no fun, and I'm sure we've all been there. So today, I thought I'd share some of my behind the scenes. Over the past few months, when I've taken my blog pictures, I've taken a couple of pictures of my surroundings to show that although pictures like flatlays may look perfect, they show a small snippet of what's really going on.

Flatlay 1

Let's start with this picture I took back in January. This flatlay is one of my most popular pictures, the final picture has had over 2.3k repins on Pinterest, which boggles my mind a bit. However, look to the side and there's Henry's trainers, and I took this on a wallpaper sample from eBay, not some fancy floorboards. To get my hands in the shot, I had to climb under my tripod like I was GI Jane, and crouch down, I got about two successful shots without my head in!

Flatlay #2

Next we're going to throw things back to Christmas. I took this Christmas present wrapping photo on a Friday afternoon, which was very grey and cold. I also wasn't feeling 100%, so I was in my pyjamas and wrapped these presents whilst watching Nativity (not the worst afternoon I've had!) I am the worst person at wrapping presents (ask any of my family) so I had to try really hard to make these look presentable and not like a 2 year old had wrapped them! I was pretty pleased with the post though, and rewarded myself with a baileys hot chocolate after taking these!

Flatlay #3

Whilst we're talking about seasonal photos, let's look at this Easter flatlay that I took for Instagram. I snapped this on Easter Saturday after coming home from the gym. I wanted to include as many Easter chocolates as possible, so I used not only all my Easter chocolate but also Henry's and then what I was giving my Mum and Sister too! Also see how Henry's trainers are never far away from my flatlays, in fact, one of them is acting as a prop to hold my background haha! Also two more things; 1. I should buy mini eggs as props more often and 2. All of those gold eggs were eaten as soon as I was happy with the photos haha!

So this is a regular occurrence when I'm taking photos, Frank coming for a nosey. He's been known to walk all over my flatlay, or try and eat my props. I once had some macarons for a flatlay, and I caught him licking one! I think he'd been watching too much Gossip Girl, clearly thought he was Blair Waldorf.

So I posted this flatlay on Instagram the other night, and I took this last week during the heatwave we had. It was super hot, and I'd had to wait for the sun to pass so there was no shadows when i took these. I'd been taking a few photos, so all the previous props were just sitting to the side, usually the sides of my flatlays are a complete mess!

I'm not sure if this post worked as well as what I thought it would in my head, but my main goal was to show that pictures aren't perfect, and what you see is a tiny snapshot. Flatlays may look perfect, but think of all the work that goes into one shot, the planning, the buying of the props, getting the camera angle right, then the editing. Something that I need to remember sometimes too.

Try to not compare yourself to other bloggers, although I know that's easier said than done!

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this post and seeing a bit of behind the scenes of my blog photos, I'd love to know what's in your behind the scenes of your blog!
