Cast your mind back a few weeks ago, I was very luckily invited to the launch of MUA’s latest offering to their make up stands. I’m sure you’re all aware of what the latest offering is, the Lip Boom Lipsticks which are a collaboration with singer and Xfactor winner Alexandra Burke. Like I said I was invited to the launch at swanky celebrity club The Rose Club in Mayfair and I spent the evening sipping cocktails and pinching myself. I did take some pictures of the event but they didn’t turn out too well so I’ve just left them out, but imagine a club with lots of mirrors and posters of Alexandra Burke dotted about the place. The event was pretty cool, I got to meet the lady herself (Alexandra Burke) and even her naughty boyfriend Jermain Defoe which my Dad was very impressed about. I also smiled at Dionne Bromfield.. check me out mingling with the celebrities 😉

So onto the actual product, Lip Boom are a lipstick and lipgloss in one handy product. There is a range of eight colours which have all been chosen by Alexandra herself and I do believe there is a colour for everyone. The lipstick of the Lip Boom is matte and the lip gloss element is glittery. Though it’s officially called a highlighting gloss that you can put on your Cupid’s bow if that floats your boat to make your lips more like Lana Del Ray rather than a llama. I have five of the shades and my favourites from the range are OK.com (yes she really has named a lipstick that) which is a nude colour, Cheeky a baby blue toned pink which is very similar to MAC’s Snob and O.M.G a peachy colour. As I mentioned above the lipstick element is a matte colour which is very pigmented which I think is quite impressive from a drugstore lipstick. I also have the colours Doin’ Good which is a rosy pink and LMK (which is let me know) which is a dark plum colour. My favourite probably out of the lot is OK.com which is a nude colour, it’s a really nice nude colour that looks really nice with the gloss over the top. It’s definitely one that I’d wear myself every day.

I have to admit though I am not a fan of the lipgloss element, it’s glittery and the chunks of glitter are quite large which means they can be quite rough on your lips. I personally think that this product is more for a younger age market, the 13 year old me probably would of loved these and would of worn them whilst dreaming of my wedding to Charlie Simpson from Busted. But that being said, I do quite like these lip booms, they’re well pigmented for the money and the lipsticks look nice with other lip balms/glosses over the top. It’s a shame that the gloss isn’t more like the Love Hearts lip balms that MUA released a few months ago. I know that Alexandra Burke isn’t the most popular Xfactor winner, I’m not really her biggest fan myself but she seemed nice enough when I met her and I admire the fact that she’s actually put work into this collaboration. Many celebrities just put their name to things, but Alexandra has chosen all the colours and even chose how the launch event was to be decorated which I think fair play to her actually. Oh also one more thing, the lip boom’s smell very sweet! I personally like the smell as I love anything that’s artificially sweet smelling but it might not be to everyone’s taste! The MUA Lip Boom’s are available now on MUA’s website and can be bought in store from Superdrug from the 9th May, they will be priced at £3.00.
