Honestly, I’m always a little sad when the winter nights draw to a close. There’s something about dark snuggly evenings that fill me with joy. But I have to say, as soon as the lighter evenings roll around, I’m proclaiming ‘ I can’t believe how light it is right now!’ like I have never seen a light evening before, never mind for the past odd twenty years.
With the lighter evenings, comes a slightly adapted night time routine for me. I always find that I’m busier in the Spring/Summer, so I don’t really want an overdrawn night time routine, I’m usually in an almost rush to get to bed as I always wake up earlier naturally in the spring.
First of all, I’ve been tending to work a little later so far this Spring, mainly because the lighter evenings trick me when I’m focused and before I know it, I look up at it’s 7pm. So I’ll check my to do list, and shut down my laptop. I’m really trying to shut down my laptop in the evenings and keep it shut. To be honest though, after ten days away from regular wifi/internet, I feel my tech obsession has died down a little which means I can actually enjoy my evenings without worrying about work.
Then I’ll cook dinner, I always make more of an attempt to eat healthier in the Spring/Summer. In the video, I filmed we had chicken curry with brown rice, which I love making and it’s super filling too. I’ve been having a lot of salads, sweet potato wedges and baked chickpeas lately. But cant deny myself the odd bowl of pasta and takeaway too. I just find that in the Spring/Summer, I’m less inclined to want to comfort eat.
Then I tend to have a little chill for a bit, I’ll watch something easy like Friends, or catch up with anything I’ve missed or even have a scroll on YouTube for videos that have been uploaded. This is usually when if Henry’s home, we can catch up about the day or if it’s just me, Frank will try his best to be a lap dog despite being basically the same size as me.
One of my favourite ways to wind down is to have a bath. As I’m running it, I will take off my make up, recently over the past couple of moths my skin has been really dehydrated and breaking out so a few weeks back I decided to strip my skincare routine right back. Dehydrated skin can also be due to diet, lifestyle and pollution so I’ve been making a more conscious effort to eat better too as well as using a stripped back skincare routine.
I have been using the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water to take off my make up, as it’s really refreshing and doesn’t irritate my skin at all. I find that it takes off waterproof mascara as well as all my make up and unclogs my pores too. Using a triple purified water formulation it hydrates the skin at the same time, which has been perfect for my dry skin lately. It makes my face feel so fresh and clean, I really enjoy using it in the evenings. I also use it in the morning too, to get rid of my sleep face. I also took it away with me on my recent trip to America, and it was perfect for taking off my make up when it came to being in a tent with no sink around for a good few hundred metres away.
Once I’ve cleansed, I’ll hop into the bath. I have been treating myself to a bath bomb here and there recently, and I used this pink one called The Comforter to make the water super girly but it also has lavender in, meaning it helps you to unwind and sleep at night which I love.
Once I’m out, I get changed into something really comfy and recently I’ve been liking over sized tees for bed. I found this emoji one from Primark, which Henry said was me described perfectly so I had to buy it. I tend to put this on with some shorts as I always get really hot in the night.
I’ll then continue my skincare routine with some toner, and then as my skin has been really dull and dry recently, I have been using the Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser, which helps to add moisture back into my sensitive skin without irritating it. It’s honestly been the only moisturiser lately that hasn’t stung on application and actually has been helping to eradicate dry patches. I use it morning and night, but tend to add a thick layer at night like an almost face mask and let it sink in. One of my favourite moisturisers that I’ve used in a while!
Then I’ll hop into bed and write a to do list for the next day. That way I have a clear mind going to sleep and know exactly what I have to do the following day.
Then after a last check of Twitter/Instagram/Facebook, I turn off the light and head to sleep 🙂 where I usually do something weird, for example last night I was apparently laughing in my sleep haha.
