I think my obsession with make up started in the aisles of Boots and Superdrug, or if you’re across the pond (drugstores.) I used to love swatching make up, comparing different brands and would easily spend hours looking at everything. I tell you what, the number of times that I have been followed by security guards obviously thinking I was up to no good was unreal, I was usually like ‘guys I will be paying cause I want the loyalty points on my advantage card alright?’
I still love pursuing the aisles, and American drugstores are literally my Disney world. I go all weak at the knees and would happily do a road trip of drugstores in America cause I’m obsessed. With things definitely being more on a budget right now, I thought I’d talk about some of my current drugstore faves. None break the bank and are all pretty good, well I think so and it’s my blog so there we go.
L’Oreal Infallible Foundation: I bought this in December when I was needing a good long lasting foundation, all of mine just wouldn’t last and I felt so drab about my skin, I wanted something good. This was on offer and my skin was also super oily at this point so it seemed like a good choice. I’ve used it every day since, and I am pretty impressed. Now what I will say is that, this can be a little cakey. It can be a bit drying so I would advise to not use this if you have dry skin. If I’m having a dry skin day, I will apply it with a good lathering of moisturiser underneath or maybe apply with liquid highlighter mixed in. But what I love about this foundation is how long it lasts on my skin. It just stays in place, it’s sweat proof, rain proof, dog licking your face proof and that is exactly what I wanted. I don’t have to powder with it on and it’s medium coverage. I tend to not build it up too much as it can be a little cakey, so I use a concealer over the top. But for the long lasting-ness this gets a thumbs up for me. I can see it being a good summer/hot day foundation!
MUA Concealer Palette: I bought this concealer palette when I was in Superdrug looking for something to cover my dreaded eye bags (please send me concealer rec’s) this has different coloured concealers such as green, lilac, yellow and salmon. Although my eye bags are still present this does help them look a little less ‘woah there’, but I like how creamy the concealers are and I think for under a fiver, it’s quite a good little palette!
Kiko Contour Stick: I love contouring but can’t seem to master it on my cheeks which is a cool story for you all, but this crayon stick from Kiko is perfect for nose contouring. In fact, I would even say I have pretty much mastered the nose contour and it’s thanks to this little stick. It’s super creamy and blend able and makes contouring a bit of a doddle. I wouldn’t be without it, although the highlighter stick that comes in the set is not up to much, the contour crayon is pretty perfect. I’ve just seen that this isn’t stocked anymore which is SO annoying. But a contour crayon is great to pick up if you’re new to contouring!
Essence Lip Products; I found Essence when we were in Wilko’s just before Christmas. I mean blow me down with a feather, just how cheap is this stuff? I bought a matte lipgloss which is a very similar colour to my Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in Candy K, and two lip liners which were just £1 each. A WHOLE BRITISH POUND. Although they’re not amazingly pigmented they are pretty good for £1/2.50 and I’ve been wearing them a lot! I find that with the matte lipgloss, to add a couple of layers and then add a little translucent powder on top and it’s a very similar look to the Kylie Jenner lip colour. Which you can’t knock for £2.50!
ELF Eye Cream: This gold shimmery eye cream from ELF has been a fave of mine for a long time now, it’s so easy for just shoving on and it makes your eyes look like one of those pinterest eyeshadow pins. I love Toast which is a glittery gold, but doesn’t fall down and gives your eyes a gorgeous gold shimmery sheen. I tend to build it up with a smokey eye and then add more at the end for a real dramatic look. They’re also super cheap too! I use my finger, and tend to really build up the gold in my inner eye! I am a big fan of ELF products though, so go check them out if you haven’t before! #totallynotsponjustreallylovetheirproducts
Barry M Light Me Up Highlighter: Finally we have this liquid highlighter from Barry M. It’s such a good dupe for the Nars Illuminator in Copacabana. You have to be careful to not put too much on or it will get a little cakey but a little goes a long way and without sounding too much like a knob it will make your cheekbones look on fleek. I looked into the mirror and said to Henry ‘my highlighter is on point right now.’ He rolled his eyes and walked off, but I was impressed! It’s also a steal at just £4.99, it’s also used on the Little Mix girls by their MUA so if it’s good enough for them, it’s defo good enough for me!
